PORT TOWNSEND – The City Council and School Board plan to talk about the possible sale or trade of the Mountain View Elementary School property this month.
The meeting will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 20 in the Port Townsend Fire Hall, 701 Harrison St.
“This is going to be a long process, and what we wanted to do was open up some discussion of possible avenues,” said John Eissinger, Port Townsend School Board chairman.
“It’s all very preliminary at this point.”
A school district planning committee has recommended that the Mountain View campus be closed.
The city is considering the site at 1919 Blaine St. as its top choice to build a new police station.
Port Townsend City Manager David Timmons said the site is perfect for police headquarters because of its central location.
Timmons suggested that the city trade 160 acres it owns in the Snow Creek area for 80 acres of state Department of Natural Resources land near Jacob Miller Road outside the city limit.
The city could then trade that land with the school district for the Mountain View site.
