PORT TOWNSEND — Community Read is entering its final week of discussions on Atina Diffley’s book Turn Here Sweet Corn.
The annual event, which began March 1, invites the entire community to focus on one book in discussions and presentations through the month.
Book discussions are set at the Hilltop Tavern, 2510 W. Sims Way, at 7 p.m. Thursday and at the Food Co-op’s dining area, 414 Kearney St., at 3 p.m. Tuesday next week.
At 5 p.m. Monday, a cooking class emphasizing fresh, organic produce will take place at Sweet Laurette Cafe, 1029 Lawrence St. Advance reservations are required via 360-385-4886.
At 6:30 p.m. Monday, the Port Townsend Library, which is sponsoring the event, will welcome Port Townsend poet and author Judith Kitchen to the Library Learning Center, 1246 Lawrence St.
She will share her insights into Turn Here Sweet Corn from her perspective as an author, teacher and critic.
All are invited to meet the author of the book at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, when Diffley will be in the Port Townsend High School auditorium, 1500 Van Ness St.
On Friday, March 28, the public can celebrate with Atina and Martin Diffley, along with the band The Pheromones.
Potluck, corn dance
The band will play at the corn dance and potluck at the Quimper Grange Hall, 219 Corona St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Copies of the memoir have been made available at the Port Townsend Library at Mountain View Commons, 1925 Blaine St., while discussions and other activities will continue through the month.
