PORT TOWNSEND — The City Council is expected to vote May 19 on an ambitious plan to renovate the historical City Hall building and build an annex.
A city staff recommendation to the council to approve the project is the result of analyzing four plans to renovate the 101-year-old structure and find a permanent location for city offices.
The council will vote on the plan May 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers of the City Hall, 540 Water St.
Currently, the Jefferson County Historical Society uses the City Hall building as a museum while the city rents space in the Waterman & Katz Building on Quincy Street.
The city continues to use the upper floor of City Hall.
Under the proposed plan, a 13,000-square-foot annex would be constructed next to City Hall, and the historical structure would be retrofitted for seismic safety.
