PORT TOWNSEND – Sure, the sales dollars roll in faster each year. But the management team at Port Townsend Farmers Market sees the event as being more about the importance of local farmers and sustainable agriculture.
“Our goal is to get more people to eat healthy, locally grown food, and by doing that to make sure that farmers make a living,” said Nick Hill, the new manager of the market.
Libby Urner was market director last year.
Hill, who was the market’s site manager last year, joins the market management team of Matt Sircely – communications, marketing and music coordinator – and Ruth Ballard – Friends of the Market coordinator.
Sircely, a musician, has booked music acts for the market for the last three years.
This year he will work to promote the market as well as to organize entertainment.
Both also have worked at local farms, Hill at Corona Farm in Port Townsend, and Sircely at Collinwood Farm, also in Port Townsend.
That, they say, gives them an appreciation of the hard work farmers put into the food that reaches the dinner table.
