PORT TOWNSEND — The Washington State Farmers Market Association has named the Port Townsend Farmers Market the best large market in the state.
The recognition will be commemorated with a ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at the market, which is located on Taylor and Lawrence streets in uptown Port Townsend.
The market was lauded for supporting farmers, helping to grow small and family businesses, and bringing their communities together around healthy food, according to the association’s website, www.wafarmersmarkets.com.
The market, which is in its 19th year of operation, features 75 vendors selling locally grown produce, cheese, meat and cider, among other products.
Saturday’s event coincides with Gov. Chris Gregoire’s designation of Aug. 7-13 as Farmers Market Week.
The Port Townsend Farmers Market runs every Saturday between April and October from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A second market operates Wednesdays on Polk Street between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
