PORT TOWNSEND — City officials are scheduled to decide on Monday whether to give the city manager a green light to award the contract for the City Hall renovation and annex construction project.
The City Council’s approval of the award resolution would set in motion annex construction that has been on city officials’ desks since 1968.
If approved, the contract award would go to Dawson Construction Inc., the lowest bidder in the second round of construction bids received on Oct. 21.
Dawson Construction asked for $3,768,000, which is about 8 percent above the architect’s estimate of $3.5 million
City Manager David Timmons requested that the City Council move ahead with the project, even though the cost to complete it exceeds the original renovation budget, established in 2003.
Project parts
Under the contract, the construction company would install a new roof, perform brick and stone repair, renovate the library, and build the annex, which would share a wall with the Old City Hall building.
The project architect planned for a full seismic building upgrade, in part accomplished by constructing the 11,700-square-foot annex, which would provide city office space.
The old building’s window and sheet metal would be repaired and preserved.
