PORT TOWNSEND — The company serving food on the Port Townsend-Coupeville ferry route has walked off the job a month earlier than it was supposed to, a spokesman for Washington State Ferries said.
At this point, it’s the only route without food being served in the galley, said Ian Sterling, spokesman for the state ferry system.
Olympic Cascade Services, which has served food on Washington State Ferries, lost in a bidding process to Center Plate.
The ferry system told Olympic Cascade Services to be out of the ferries by the end of September, Sterling said.
While the ferries wait for Center Plate, which already serves Safeco Field and the Tacoma Dome, it will stock up the vending machines.
Sterling said the ferry system expects higher quality food and more stable galley hours.
“We’re excited to get this new vendor on board,” he said. “We’re disappointed the old vendor has decided to walk.”
