PORT TOWNSEND— The MV Kennewick has been repaired and is expected to go back into service with Friday’s 2:15 p.m. sailing from Port Townsend to Coupeville (Whidbey Island).
The boat was taken out of commission Friday morning after a steering alarm went off several times.
A part was ordered and arrived at 9 a.m., and was installed by crew members and electricians.
In an email, Washington State Ferries spokesperson Marta Coursey said: “It appears that the steering alarm issue was related to one of the bow handles on the vessel, which would have affected the maneuverability of the vessel.”
During the time the ferry was not operating, customers were encouraged to take other routes to their destinations.
