PORT TOWNSEND — The Steilacoom II resumed service late this morning after divers discovered and removed a crab pot wrapped around a rope guard at one end of the 50-car vessel.
“The crab pot lines have been removed from the number one end of the vessel,” Laura Johnson, Washington State Ferries spokeswoman, said in an e-mail.
Sailings on the Steilacoom II, which travels between Port Townsend and Keystone on Whidbey Island, were canceled until 11:15 a.m. today, when service resumed, Johnson said.
“Rope guards are intended to help prevent lines from wrapping around the shaft,” she said this morning. “There were indications of the problem late [Sunday] night but we could not get divers to investigate until this morning.”
