PORT TOWNSEND — A proposal to contract city recreation services out to a Jefferson County YMCA received unanimous approval from two dozen participants a community forum Wednesday.
Forum participants included Port Townsend School District Superintendent Carol Andreasen, Jefferson County Parks Director Warren Steuer and four members of the Port Townsend Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, including its chairwoman, Barbara McColgan Pastore.
The parks board will discuss the proposal Nov. 7 and make a recommendation to the City Council.
The proposal calls for the formation of a local YMCA which would take over existing recreation programs and be funded for up to five years with $90,000 annually from the city.
Recreation Director Bill Kush would likely become the YMCA recreation director.
A YMCA board will be formed in the coming month as an adjunct to the Clallam County YMCA in Port Angeles.
