PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend City Council members are sending a letter to Gov. Chris Gregoire about their “frustration and disappointment” over Washington State Ferries’ Port Townsend ferry terminal expansion plans.
The letter approved by the council on Monday states: “The size and scale of the terminal is simply too large for the historic character of Port Townsend waterfront.”
City leaders ask Gregoire to assist “in facilitating a resolution of the growing discord between the city of Port Townsend and Washington State Ferries.”
The council’s letter was awaiting council members’ signatures Tuesday afternoon and Councilwoman Michelle Sandoval said she hoped to hand-deliver it to the governor’s office.
Washington State Ferries’ community relations and public outreach manager agrees there’s a problem between the city and the agency.
“I’m aware of their concerns and I think they’re right, there is a conflict,” Hadley Greene said Tuesday after hearing the content of the letter.
