PORT TOWNSEND — The City Council on Monday night reaffirmed that the city-owned Port Townsend Golf Club will remain a golf course and not the site for something else — such as a performing arts center.
The council authorized spending up to $20,000 to hire a consulting firm to study the nine-hole links.
The council voted unanimously in favor of the reaffirmation as outlined in the city’s parks plan.
The action followed presentation of a petition which purportedly carried 1,200 signatures asking that the golf course remain the same.
The outcry to save the golf course began in January after word leaked that a group working privately to build support for a performing arts center wanted golf course land to build on.
