PORT TOWNSEND — State transportation planners will soon have a better idea of what options to provide for motorists when the Hood Canal Bridge temporarily closes in 2006.
John Callahan, bridge repair work project manager, said Friday that about 2,000 surveys returned to the state Department of Transportation will be analyzed by a Eugene, Ore., consulting firm.
The results will be available in draft form by the end of the month.
The state is looking at four alternatives to the Hood Canal Bridge, especially for commuters:
* A passenger-only ferry across the canal near the bridge.
* A Port Townsend-Seattle pedestrian ferry.
* A Port Townsend-Edmonds or Port Townsend-Kingston vehicle ferry.
* Using U.S. Highway 101 to reach destinations in Kitsap, Pierce or King counties.
