PORT TOWNSEND — A two-month-old baby girl, burned in a house fire early Tuesday morning, must undergo surgery and a series of skin grafts during what is expected to be a long recovery.
Linda Bozak, the baby’s aunt, said Haley Herron suffered severe burns on her right arm and less serious burns to her side, leg and face in the blaze.
“Doctors are very concerned about Hailey’s right arm,” Bozak said Wednesday.
The baby is being treated in the burn unit of Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Port Townsend Fire Department officials said the fire started near a space heater that was placed too close to flammable items on and near the bassinet in which Haley was placed.
The infant is the daughter of James Herron and Jamie Ackerman who live in the downstairs of a split-level home at 909 Seventh St. with Herron’s mother, Catherine Boone.
