PORT TOWNSEND — Catharine Robinson was unanimously selected mayor by the City Council on Monday night.
She’ll serve as the council’s “presiding officer and ceremonial leader of the city” for the next two years, City Attorney John Watts said.
Departing Mayor Kees Kolff nominated Robinson to their colleagues Monday night.
Under the council-manager form of government passed by voters in 1998, general election of a powerful city mayor was eliminated, leaving the decision to the City Council instead.
Robinson was first elected to the council two years ago to fill an unexpired term.
She was re-elected by 23 percentage points over challenger Terri McQuillen to a full four-year term last November.
