PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson General Hospital commissioners want the Fire Department to provide ambulance service between the medical facility and others.
Hospital commissioners voted Monday to send the request to Fire Department officials.
“The hope is that a locally-based system would reduce the time significantly,” hospital Administrator Vic Dirksen said Wednesday. “It’s not uncommon to wait two hours.”
When contacted Wednesday about the proposal, Fire Chief Ed Edwards said the department will evaluate the feasibility of the proposal.
A date for a decision has not been set.
