PORT TOWNSEND — Were last-minute City Council election filings an altruistic effort to provide voters with clear choices or a calculated strategy to take over city government?
The candidates say no, but political observers say the general election filings are more than just a coincidence.
Freida Fenn, Catharine Robinson and Michelle Sandoval all filed for office Friday.
Sandoval’s filing for an uncontested seat followed candidate Kees Kolff’s switch from the uncontested Position 1 race to challenge Lyn Hersey for Position 5.
Some election observers believe Kolff’s move was orchestrated, but Sandoval and Kolff campaign manager, Liz Goldstein, said they didn’t collaborate on the decision.
And Sandoval said the candidates don’t consider themselves a slate.
