Port Townsend Main Street shows its appreciation with awards

PORT TOWNSEND — Mike Kenna, owner of Printery Communications, is the Port Townsend Main Street Program’s Business Partner of the Year.

Kenna received the award at Main Street’s annual holiday party.

Kenna has been in business for 38 years and manages more than 20 employees at his Uptown location.

He was thanked for “his successful business, his community spirit, his artistic eye and generosity to the Port Townsend Main Street Program.”

A Main Street member since 1985, Kenna and photographer Paul Boyer organized the First Family Portrait — a Community Photo Shoot.

It was shot in front of the Mount Baker Block, on Oct. 19, 1985, and printed that same day.

Twenty-eight years later, he is still helping coordinate and print the annual Main Street Family Portrait, with same day service.

“It is amazing that we have the original committee member still involved with the original project from 28 years ago,” said Main Street Executive Dirctor Mari Mullen.

“This year’s family portrait has received rave reviews, was logistically the most challenging, has sold well and it’s one of the best ones yet,”

Kenna was given a certificate framed by FrameWorks and a T-shirt featuring the 2013 Family Portrait, with the dates of all the portraits on the back.

Volunteer of the Year

Main Street board President Heather Dudley Nolette was named Volunteer of the Year.

This award is bestowed upon an individual who has participated in an outstanding way — sharing time and talent in furthering the work of the Main Street Program.

Nollette helped start the Co-Lab Co-Working Space this year, has been an active member of Team Jefferson and the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.

She is the project manager for the Hastings Estate Co., is an actress with Key City Public Theatre and has a husband and two young children.

Nolette received a framed certificate, a Main Street Memory Book and a bouquet.

Collaborator of the Year

The Daily Bird Pottery earned a new award — Collaborator of the Year — for its efforts in supporting Main Street events and activities and its contribution to the community.

The business received a framed certificate and an original chalkboard drawing by local artist and graphic designer Adam Mullet.

Mullen also recognized outgoing board of directors members Mark Cole and Dominic Svornich at the meeting.

She noted that during Cole’s 15 years of service, he shared his knowledge and expertise about tourism, marketing, special events and entertainment as well as serving as the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee liaison.

Mullen said that Svornich has brought “a wild combination of energy, entrepreneurial spirit, culinary skills, a passion for music, Steampunk and banking skills to the board.”

He has served as the board’s vice president, on the Economics Committee as well as the music guru for Concerts on the Dock.
