PORT TOWNSEND — Registration is open now for a special program to introduce toddlers to sea life and small marine animals.
The Port Townsend Marine Science Center will present the Tide Pool Toddlers program from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 17) at the center’s marine exhibit on the beach at Fort Worden State Park.
The program is for children 3 to 5 years old.
The price is $10 per child or free to marine science center members.
“We’ve had such a great response to our Seal Pups camp this summer for the same age group, we decided to offer a shorter session for the early fall,” said Jean Walat, program director for the center.
“This program is an awesome opportunity to inspire young minds to be involved in the ocean and begin to understand the astonishing world that’s right at their height level.”
Children will be told of the nature of tide pools and can investigate how creatures adapt to living in such an extreme environment.
They will be able to discover who lives where in the touch pools in the marine exhibit, participate in a lab activity and create marine-inspired art.
Registration is requested since space is limited.
Walk-ins may be allowed if space is available.
Participants must be toilet trained.
For more information or to register, phone 360-385-5582, ext. 104, or email rbronekant@ptmsc.org.
The marine exhibit and natural history exhibit are open every day but Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for youth and free to marine science center members.
