PORT TOWNSEND — The sound of cash registers cha-chinging has come to represent the Christmas season almost as much as sleigh bells ringing.
With holiday shopping winding down, Port Townsend merchants are assessing their Christmas earnings and many report positive results.
“We had a really good December, a good Christmas,” said Ellen Poitevin, owner of April Fool and Penny Too, at 725 Water St.
“It was our best in years.”
For the past 17 years, Poitevin’s shop has sold an array of eye-catching ornaments, trinkets and elegant accessories.
She travels throughout the United States with her sister and business partner, Penny, to find interesting merchandise that she said consumers went crazy for this year.
Like many shop owners in Port Townsend, Poitevin stayed open for extended holiday hours. She said that could be a reason for the profitable season.
