PORT TOWNSEND — Reconditioned motor oil burned in steam generators at the Port Townsend Paper Corp. is powering customers of the Clallam County Public Utility District.
The two megawatts sold to the Clallam utility makes a little money for the paper mill while also saving the utility money.
The arrangement is the most notable effort by the two agencies to cut down demand for electricity from the Bonneville Power Administration.
Port Townsend Paper Corp. has a five-year contract with Bonneville for 18.3 megawatts of electricity per day at a fixed price with surcharges applied when the company exceeds its daily ration.
