PORT TOWNSEND — Construction of a new $7 million multipurpose dining hall at Fort Worden State Park is back on track.
The state Office of Financial Management officials will release $6 million in project funds frozen for several months because of worsening economic conditions.
Park officials were notified of the decision Friday.
The planned 18,106-square-foot building constitutes the largest single project in Washington State Parks’ 2001-2003 capital budget.
While state officials still need to sign off on the remaining $1 million needed to build the dining hall, the bid process for construction could begin within a month.
“The funds have been released to the point that state parks is directing its staff to get these bid proposals out on the street as soon as possible,” Fort Worden State Park Manager Jim Farmer said.
