BRINNON — A Port Townsend motorcyclist was flown to a Seattle hospital Wednesday after he veered off the road to avoid a car that had crossed into his lane, the State Patrol said.

Gary G. Lockwood, 71, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after the 11:33 a.m. wreck on U.S. Highway 101, 8 miles south of Brinnon.

His condition was not available Wednesday afternoon from Harborview.

“I don’t believe it was life-threatening,” said Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman, of Lockwood’s injuries.

He said Lockwood was conscious and speaking to emergency responders at the scene.

Lockwood was traveling south on Highway 101 when an older-model blue Honda two-door traveling north crossed the centerline into the southbound lane, the State Patrol said.

Troopers said Lockwood veered to the right to avoid a collision, struck the concrete barrier and slid 30 feet against the barrier, coming to rest on the southbound shoulder.

Troopers do not know who was driving the Honda or if drugs or alcohol were involved.

Lockwood was wearing a helmet, the State Patrol said.

The wreck is under investigation.

The State Patrol asks that witnesses of the collision contact the agency at 360-473-0113.
