PORT TOWNSEND — No one stepped forward to speak on behalf of convicted murderer Robert J. Stoner of Quilcene during his sentencing Thursday before Jefferson County Superior Court Judge Tom Majhan.
Neither did anyone speak about his victim, Douglas McFarland, 48, who Stoner shot to death during a drunken argument in October 2000.
The 55-year-old Stoner also had nothing to say on his behalf as Majhan imposed a 28-year, 4-month sentence for first-degree murder. That includes an automatic 5-year sentence for use of deadly weapon in the crime.
Both Stoner and McFarland lived in the shadows of society. The murdered man’s body was dumped at the end of a nondescript logging road a few miles from where Stoner shot him with a rifle.
