PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor Information Center is another step closer to a new location at the southeast corner of Jefferson Transit’s Haines Place Park and Ride property.
Chamber officials hope to make the move by May and have the visitor center open for the summer season.
“We’re on our way,” Tim Caldwell, Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce general manager, said after the Transit Board approved moving forward on relocating the visitor center to the 12th and Landes corner of the park and ride lot.
The board directed Jefferson Transit General Manager Dave Turissini and City Manager David Timmons to move ahead on finishing a final agreement.
The Transit Board’s action came a day after the Port Townsend City Council approved a memorandum of agreement with the Chamber of Commerce that required the chamber to pay for the building and its relocation, while the city pays $25,000 from the state Department of Community Trade and Economic Development.
The city agreed to pay up to $25,000 in lodging tax revenues.
