Port Townsend: Newcomers to council expect no major city policy shifts soon

PORT TOWNSEND — No dramatic policy shifts are immediately likely when four new City Council members take office in January.

Freida Fenn and Kees Kolff said Wednesday they want to examine the issues and discuss them with both new and sitting council members before proposing sweeping changes.

Mayor Geoff Masci and City Manager David Timmons each said current issues and programs will continue as the members-elect become accustomed to their new roles.

Fenn, Kolff, Catherine Robinson and Michelle Sandoval were elected to the City Council on Tuesday. They succeed Allen Frank, Vern Garrison, Sydney Lipton and Bill Wolcott.

Only Lipton ran for re-election, losing to Fenn.

The Jefferson County Auditor’s Office received approximately 760 new absentee ballots from throughout the county Wednesday.

Approximately 7,580 out of 10,423 total absentee ballots have been returned to the office.

The additional absentee ballots will be counted on Friday at the courthouse auditor’s office in Port Townsend at 11 a.m.
