PORT TOWNSEND — Port of Port Townsend Executive Director Larry Crockett says no security changes will be instituted following last month’s theft of a 27-foot racing sailboat from Point Hudson Marina.
The sailboat Giant Slayer — stolen May 5 — was recovered earlier this week in Ketchikan, Alaska.
Boat thefts are rare at Point Hudson Marina.
“Nobody around here has ever heard of anything like that happening before,” Crockett said Thursday.
“We’ve had outboard motors stolen and fishing tackle taken off boats, but nothing like this.”
Although vessel thefts are rare, Crockett said it’s not difficult to steal a boat.
“Somebody who knows how to sail . . . all they have to do is just take the ropes off the dock,” he said.
