PORT TOWNSEND — The Northwest Maritime Center is inviting the community to a beach party next week to mark the opening of its waterfront property at Point Hudson.
The beach will be officially opened to the public Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. by U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks, who will untie a sailor’s knot in lieu of cutting a ribbon.
Music, food vendors and a beer garden will open at 4 p.m., with drawings for door prizes, activities for children and rowing continuing until 7 p.m.
“This is our way to say thank you for your patience and support,” said Dave Robison, executive director of the nonprofit organization, to the community.
Robison plans to build a maritime education center on the site at Monroe and Water streets.
