PORT TOWNSEND — Police Chief Kristen Anderson-Post is taking a month’s leave of absence from her job while campaigning for Jefferson County sheriff.
“It was a mutual decision between (City Manager) David Timmons and me,” Anderson-Post said Wednesday.
Anderson-Post, 34, said she was taking the leave to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest.
The issue, she said, is keeping her hours as police chief separate from her campaign time, something that’s been increasingly difficult to do given the number of people approaching her with campaign-related concerns.
Deputy Chief Conner Daily will be acting chief for the month, Anderson-Post said.
