Port Townsend police seek information after alleged assault

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend police are seeking information on alleged assailants in Kah Tai Park.

A man told police Monday he was assaulted by two males while he was walking on a trail in the park Sunday night, said Keppie Keplinger, public information officer for the Port Townsend Police Department, in a news release.

The unidentified man said he was near the Haines Place Park and Ride parking lot by Landes Street when two males wearing dark clothes and ski masks shoved him from behind and forced him to the ground, Keplinger said, adding that the man said he had seen them before.

While he was on the ground, one struck the man in the face while the other tried to take his backpack, which was strapped securely to him, the man told police.

Then the two got into a car and left the area, Keplinger said.

One of the assailants is described as about 5-foot-9. He wore a dark mask; a long-sleeve, plaid flannel shirt; old, dirty blue jeans; and yellow work-style boots, and had two large rings on his right hand.

The other is described as about 6 feet tall, dressed in a dark ski mask, a black or dark plain hoodie, dirty blue jeans and brown work boots.

They left in an older model Honda or Toyota Camry, a four-door sedan, dark in color, the man said. He added it was abnormally loud when it accelerated.
