PORT TOWNSEND — Shortly after the 29th Wooden Boat Festival ends in September 2005, all of the remaining boats will be removed from the Point Hudson Marina in preparation for a major construction project.
When it’s finished the marina, owned by the Port of Port Townsend, will have all new docks and pilings, according to Larry Crockett, Port executive director.
“We’re going to reorganize, but not expand,” Crockett said during Thursday’s meeting of the county’s intergovernmental committee.
Crockett said port officials decided to close the entire marina, rather than having the work done piecemeal as a way of speeding the project.
The reorganization of space will increase capacity of the marina by about 15 percent so it can hold approximately 55 vessels.
Crockett said Point Hudson will see its capacity increased by about 30 percent for the Wooden Boat Festival.
New piers and walkways in the marina will be accessible to people with disabilities, something the current situation allows.
Also in the construction plans is a new boardwalk around the outside of the marina, according to Crockett.
He said a new lift pier will be built.
The current lift pier has about five years of useable life left, Crockett said.
