PORT TOWNSEND — Port of Port Townsend officials want to rezone Point Hudson because its manufacturing designation is “not right or executable.”
The Port filed an application Tuesday to change the designation of Point Hudson to a commercial/light industrial/ recreation designation.
Port Executive Director Larry Crockett said no major changes are planned for the site. However, he said the current designation doesn’t reflect the uses for which the site — which houses a mixture of marine trade businesses, restaurants, and commercial office space — has traditionally been used.
“We are not changing the use of the facility, but believe, we — the city and the Port — must be honest with ourselves and zone Point Hudson for what it has been and what it is,” he said. “It’s a ‘truth-in-lending’ issue.”
The Port took over Point Hudson’s management on April 1 after leasing out the property for four decades.
