— an 800-decibel siren — to be dedicated
PORT TOWNSEND — An alarm system featuring an 800-decibel siren has been installed to warn of incoming tsunamis and hazardous weather.
Fortunately, the siren won’t be tested when the All Hazards Alert Broadcast system is inaugurated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Port of Port Townsend boat yard.
Joked Port Executive Director Larry Crockett on Monday:
“We’ve been told by the manufacturers that when the siren goes off, it can peel paint off buildings.”
The Federal Emergency Management Agency funded the system with grant money obtained by the state Military Department Emergency Management Division.
