OLYMPIA — A team from Seattle Prep took top honors in the statewide high school YMCA Mock Trial Competition and is eligible to compete for the national title in May at Atlanta.
Washington Supreme Court Justice James Johnson presided over the championship trial Sunday in Olympia.
Twenty teams took part in the three-day competition at the Thurston County Courthouse. They argued plaintiff and defense sides of a fictitious trial about a teacher dismissed for not acting on warning signs of a troubled student who brought a gun to school.
Other top high school finishers: 2, University Prep (Seattle); 3, Franklin (Seattle); 4, River Academy of Wenatchee; 5, Mercer Island; 6, Tri-Cities Prep; 7, Seattle Prep; 8, Port Townsend; 9, Camas; 10, Kennewick.
