PORT TOWNSEND — In the next 30 days, the city will acquire 200,000 square feet of land, preserving some of it as wetland and some as open space.
The City Council voted 5-1 Tuesday to purchase five blocks of land — which include 40 5,000-square-foot lots — for $60,000.
Council members Freida Fenn, Joe Finnie, Catharine Robinson, Michelle Sandoval and Mayor Kees Kolff supported the purchase.
Councilman Al Youse opposed the motion and Councilman Geoff Masci was absent from the meeting.
“This is a good deal for the city,” City Attorney John Watts said during Tuesday’s meeting.
