PORT TOWNSEND — A playground for toddlers will officially open Saturday at the Port Townsend Community Center on Tyler Street.
The grand opening is planned for 10 a.m. and includes a brief ceremony and Doug Flemming singing children’s songs.
Kimberly Jackson and three other members of the Uptown Community Playground Project Committee raised $16,000 to pay for playground equipment for the park.
The playground features two major apparatus that include a slide, pint-size rappelling wall, play storefront, “beanstalk” climber, an above-ground tunnel, swings and other amenities.
Jackson said she and mothers Tiffany Drewry, Amber Robles and Cythia Osterman began raising funds because of the dearth of play equipment in the community for those between the ages of 2 and 5.
