PORT TOWNSEND — For the third time this year, a transient has been hospitalized after contracting hypothermia while living outdoors in Port Townsend.
The unidentified man was rescued off Chetzemoka Park’s beach Wednesday night, Assistant Fire Chief Tom Aumock said.
He was in serious condition Thursday, said Paula Dowdle, Jefferson General Hospital chief operating officer.
“The patient had been on the beach and residing there for a couple days,” Aumock said. “This is what led to the hypothermic condition.”
The National Weather Service in Seattle reported light rains and winds with gusts as fast as 45 mph on Wednesday, Christmas Day.
The wind chill temperature was in the 20s for much of the day.
