PORT TOWNSEND — An interim ordinance that prevents against large-scale tree clearing and removal will probably lapse after several members of the City Council blocked its renewal Monday night.
The council had planned to renew a measure to regulate land-clearing in the city under a ordinance first passed in February and set to expire Aug. 25.
The ordinance — largely aimed at clearcutting of undeveloped properties — calls for site plans, professional review and permits in cases where a large number of trees are cleared. Most residential properties are excluded.
