PORT TOWNSEND — Two 14-year-olds were charged Monday in Jefferson County Superior Court with starting the Aug. 4 fire that destroyed Aldrich’s market.
The teenagers, a girl from Port Townsend and a boy from Bremerton, were charged as juveniles with first-degree reckless burning for causing the blaze at the 114-year-old landmark.
Aldrich’s was commonly referred to as the oldest operating grocery in the state.
The summons signed by Court Commissioner Richard L. Shaneyfelt orders the juveniles, who are unnamed because of their age, to appear in court Oct. 30 at 8:30 a.m.
Prosecuting Attorney Juelie Dalzell said another teenage girl was a witness to the crime, but was not involved in starting the blaze.
