PORT TOWNSEND — A fire late Saturday night caused extensive damage to an Uptown residence.
The house’s elderly occupant and her cat were unharmed, however.
Margaret Neville was asleep in her 1234 Franklin St. house when a neighbor woke her up and helped her out of her burning house around 11:30 p.m., said Tom Aumock, Port Townsend assistant fire chief.
Another neighbor, who saw the fire when he came home, called 9-1-1 and then began spraying water from a garden hose on the fire, Aumock said.
Neville is now living in a cottage behind the house and was doing OK Sunday, her son, Jay Neville, said.
The blaze started in the fireplace and chimney, then spread into the living room and up a wall into the ceiling, Aumock said.
