SEQUIM — About 15,000 eastern Clallam County residents lost power Monday evening.
An estimated 3,000 Clallam County Public Utility District customers lost power for about two hours, while the remaining 12,000 were restored in about 30 minutes, said David Proebstel, chief engineer for the PUD.
The PUD noticed a faulty connection on a 115 kilovolt transmission at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and the Old Olympic Highway at about 5 p.m.
To fix it, the Bonneville Power Administration had to open up the substation at Happy Valley, which meant that the 15,000 customers lost power about 5:30 p.m.
By about 5:45 p.m., about 3,000 customers had power back, and by 6:30 all except 3,000 had electricity restored.
Although the power outage was not planned in advance, it was expected, Proebstel said.
The work on the transmission was finished at 8 p.m.
Proebstel wasn’t sure what the cause of the faulty connector was.
