Power outages reported in Port Ludlow, Port Townsend areas

PORT LUDLOW — A section of Jefferson County Pubic Utility District underground wire failed early Monday evening, cutting power to 1,000 Port Ludlow-area customers for about two hours.

The 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. outage left the village center untouched, mainly affecting rural Port Ludlow north of the intersection of Paradise Bay and Oak Bay roads, PUD Resource Manager Bill Graham said Tuesday.

A separate outage Tuesday also affected the Quimper Mercantile Co. complex at 1121 Water St. in Port Townsend, cutting power to about a dozen businesses Tuesday morning, Graham said.

Graham said the source of the Port Ludlow-area outage was quickly identified.

All of the Swansonville community was without power.

“There was a long stretch of line through Swansonville, and they were able to isolate it,” Graham said.

They knew at that point that the fault itself was closer to the substation.

“They were able to supply power to everyone and get to the problem later,” he said.
