A canoe from Ahousaht First Nations of western Vancouver Island is hauled ashore by volunteers Tuesday on Lower Elwha Klallam land near the mouth of the Elwha River west of Port Angeles, a port of call and point of welcome for haulers taking part in Power Paddle to Puyallup Youth Canoe Journey 2024. Tribal groups from across southern Canada and the Pacific Northwest are taking part in the journey, which culminates with dozens of tribes gathering on Puyallup territory in Tacoma on Aug. 1.
