Power pole replacement closes Hill Street

PORT ANGELES — Hill Street was closed for five hours Wednesday for the replacement of several power poles along the street, said Mike Healy, Port Angeles public works director.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience,” Healy said Thursday. “DOT, Clallam Transit, everyone was notified who we thought might be impacted.”

“From a public safety perspective, given how narrow that road is and our trucks and the power lines there, we decided out of an abundance of caution to close the road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” Healy said.

The public works department is at full staff now, so they are able to get to these “hardening” projects, which should reduce the number of future power outages, he said.
