PORT ANGELES — Power has been restored to the east end of the city and traffic has been reopened on U.S. Highway 101 following a major propane leak.
Fire Chief Ken Dubuc reported that Port Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to a major propane leak at the Days Inn hotel, 1510 E. Front St., at 1:10 a.m.
A large tree had fallen onto two propane tanks on the west side of the hotel, causing a significant leak, he said.
Dubuc said firefighters were able to stem the flow of propane and were able to reduce the leak, but could not shut it off completely.
Representatives of Ferrell Gas were able to shut off the propane leak.
Occupants of the Days Inn were evacuated, he said. Power was shut off in the area and both Front and First streets were closed to traffic.
As of 5:40 a.m., traffic was reopened in both directions and power was restored to the area.
