PORT ANGELES — Colorful flowers filled an athletic locker room at Civic Field on Sunday.
The 15 large pots of flowers arrived at the stadium, adding color to preparations for today’s memorial service for U.S. Forest Service Officer Kristine Fairbanks.
The flowers were stowed in the shady, cool locker rooms so they will be fresh when placed outside this morning, said Darryl Anderson, facilities coordinator.
Outside, city public works staff transformed Civic Field from an athletic field into an arena for the 1 p.m. services, at which as many as 5,000 are expected to pay tribute to Fairbanks, who was killed Sept. 20 while investigating a suspicious van in Olympic National Forest.
Among the scheduled speakers at the memorial will be Gov. Chris Gregoire.
