PORT ANGELES — Steve Quick, Forks High School’s principal for the past two school years, resigned on Monday.
Quick, who since the spring has been the target of student, parent and staff protests, hand-delivered his letter of resignation to Superintendent Frank Walter.
“I have accepted a position with another school district for the 2005-06 school year,” wrote Quick in a brief letter that made his resignation effective immediately.
Quick was unavailable for comment Monday.
However, Walter said that Quick, who had recently moved into a house in Forks with his wife and two children, was going to work for a school district in eastern Washington.
“The combination of the action I took in appointing Ray Marshall principal of [Forks] Middle and [Forks] High schools and Mr. Quick’s resignation allows us to move forward in a positive way,” Walter said.
Contract not renewed
In June, Walter announced to the Quillayute Valley School Board that he would not be renewing Quick’s contract for next school year.
For a number of reasons, including accusations that Quick was an overly authoritarian administrator, as well as doubts over how he handled the disciplining of a student in March, the principal increasingly came under fire within the community.
