PORT ANGELES — Proposed water quality standards could inadvertently result in voluminous stormwater control guidelines becoming part of state law, their opponents say.
Barbara Kitchens, government affairs director for the Washington Association of Realtors, disclosed the information during a little-publicized public hearing Wednesday night at Vern Burton Community Center.
The state hearing was attended by about 30 people representing local government, real estate and timber interests.
It was the seventh of eight such hearings on proposed water quality standards being held throughout Washington by the state Department of Ecology.
The standards would set strict limits on pollution in streams, lakes and marine areas.
