PORT ANGELES — John McNew says he hasn’t seen enough support for troops fighting in Iraq.
So, he’s decided to do something about it.
McNew erected a large red, white and blue sign in the front yard of his West Eighth Street home last week so people can write the names of loved ones deployed oversees.
“It was a spur-of-the-moment thing,” McNew said Wednesday. “I wanted to do something.”
The big piece of rectangular plywood — visible from more than a block away — is decorated with stars outlined in red, white and blue paint.
Scrawled across the bottom of the sign is: “Put your loved one on this board.”
Beneath the sign, McNew has placed red, white and blue coolers, and nearby sits a lawn chair decorated in the same colors.
Anyone with a friend or loved one taking part in the war can stop by the yard, at 1419 W. Eighth St., any time and write that person’s name on the sign, McNew said.
