PT ethics board member to seek independent advice

PORT TOWNSEND — An ethics board member reviewing a complaint against Councilwoman Freida Fenn is seeking independent legal advice on how the board should proceed.

The three-member board consists of Eric Kuzma, Edel Sokol and Barbara McColgan Pastore.

Fenn has objected to Sokol and McColgan serving on the board, leaving Kuzma as its only uncontested member, City Clerk Pam Kolacy said Thursday.

Fenn wants McColgan Pastore to step down because of alleged political ties to complainant and former City Councilman Al Frank, Kolacy said.

And Fenn wants Sokol to recuse himself because she says he’s written letters that are critical of her to newspapers.

The ethics board met briefly Wednesday to begin the process of reviewing the ethics complaint.

During the session, Kuzma decided to seek independent counsel on how to proceed.

Fenn was out of town and unable to attend the meeting.
